Brown Trout in the Ashokan Reservoir

If you are a trout fisherman and love big fish, it’s a great time to angle for a monster. While I’m a fly fisherman I do love getting out on a boat and setting a line in hopes of a 10lbs fish. The time is right to get some legal bait (ie sawbellies) and dropping a few lines out at different depths. I caught mine at 40’ and the smallmouth bass were at 15-20’. Try getting out early or late in the day in the lower basin and a nice calm day with no wind. It’s amazing to see big fish smash bait on the surface, naturally just out of casting distance. Have fun.
